State Bicycle Black Label 6061 Aluminum Fixed Gear Bike Review

Are you a fitness buff? Do you love to ride to help shed pounds? Are you interested in getting a fixed gear bicycle? If you answered yes, then you’ve come to the right place. The State Bicycle Co Black Label Fixed Gear Bike is one of the best single speed bicycles out on the road and for good reason.

This company has a long history of making high-quality rides, and the Black Label is a perfect example of the brand’s commitment to excellence. Whether you’re looking for a way to lose weight or just want a bike to commute with, the Black Label is for you.

Aluminum Frame

When it comes to bike frames, you want something that is as sturdy as it is lightweight. There are many different materials that bikes can be made from, but none are as reliable as aluminum. This metal won’t rust, and it’s made to last.

Also, it’s one of the lightest metals out there, making this bike weigh less than twenty pounds. To help keep everything in top shape, certain components are also made with carbon fiber, which is by far the gold standard in bike materials.

Adjustable Seat Height

For many bikers, the seat is the key to feeling comfortable during your ride. If your seat feels weird or off, then you won’t want to use your bike at all. That being said, the Black Label comes with an adjustable seat so you can set the height to your liking. Personally, I like the seat to ride a little high, so I can get a better position as I ride.

Galaxy 46T Crankset

Since this bike has only one gear, it’s imperative that the gear is top-quality, since it will be undergoing all of the wear and tear as you ride. That being said, the Black Label comes with a Galaxy 46T Crankset, which is one of the best you can buy. You don’t want to have to keep replacing or repairing your crankset, so the Galaxy is built to last.

Flip-Flop Hub

One of the biggest differences in riding a fixed gear versus a multi-speed bicycle is the fact that the pedals move with the wheel. What that means is that to move forward (even downhill) you have to pedal along, lest you slow your speed and come to a stop.

Unlike most other bikes, you cannot coast on a fixie. However, this model gives you the option to use a freewheel if you’re used to that. Simply use the flip-flop hub to swap between methods and you’re ready to go. This feature is ideal for anyone who is new to single-speed bikes.

Final Verdict

Several years ago, I committed myself to losing weight. I decided that a great way to start was to ride my bike everywhere, but I needed to get a new bike to make that happen (my old one was too short). That’s when I heard about fixed gear bicycles. I had never ridden one before, but after I got used to it, I knew that this was the way to go.

On other bikes, you tend to coast way too much, but with a fixie, you have to keep pedaling the whole time, even when you’re riding down a hill. Since I got the Black Label, I’ve been riding everywhere, and I have lost a lot more weight than I probably would have riding a multi-speed bicycle. Overall, I am very satisfied with this bike.
